think of us - liverpool biennial
sound recordist, facilitator and soundscape composer
A project commissioned by Liverpool Biennial, as part of The Inside Out Project (a global participatory art initiative founded by French artist JR), a direct call to action developed with hundreds of children across Liverpool City Region.
During a series of workshops, children explored the ways in which they would like to feel seen and heard, how they feel young people are perceived and listened to, and how they might use public art to communicate with adults. The workshops were facilitated by me, photograper Emma Case, producer Klaire Doyle and the Biennial Learning team.
During these sessions, I worked with the children to record their statements - setting up a pop-up recording studio in each school to record their messages.
I then combined the children’s voices with different found sounds from the schools, sounds recorded with the children - percussion, singing, laughing, shouting, to make five different soundscape compositions .
These soundscapes accompany the photos by Emma Case, that now line the walls of the Royal Albert Dock.
